MUSICAL BRAIN SCAN SERIES: DANNY GIBBS
We're very thrilled to introduce you today a new GMK Musical Brain Scan playlist. For this new episode we would like to introduce to you Danny Gibbs. He is behind the groovy basslines of Baby Vanga, a psych sextet from South London.
With influences stretching from Herbie Hancock, Donovan, Pipe-eye and their idealisation of space themed cop shows, they strive to form a projection of music that is light-hearted yet intricate and groovy. This South London sextet materialise music entirely themselves from the composition to the recording and production, each song forming an organic snapshot of that moment in time. The artwork is also created in house by the synthesist Alfie Rouy in tandem with the musical process.
Their latest single Electric Air is discribed as a brief exploration into the endless journey of finding purpose with actions, yet being aware of the beauty in the actions themselves. Reflecting this is the insecure effect of the odd time enclosed by entwining genres, that's contrasted by light-hearted melodies and the overall optimism the song tries to illustrate.
We've asked Danny for his musical brain scan, here it is:
