MUSICAL BRAIN SCAN SERIES: TOMA BANJANIN
We're very thrilled to introduce you today a new Musical Brain Scan!. For this new episode we wanted to introduce you Toma Banjanin, he is the founding member (with his twin Andy) of Tempesst: a London based band.
Started more than a decade ago in the small coastal town of Noosa, Australia, around twin brothers Toma and Andy Banjanin. Growing up in a musical family, the pair joined the church band at 14 years old and performed regularly for the next few years. It was there that they met Kane Reynolds and Blake Misipeka, who are the keyboard and the bass players for Tempesst.
After relocating to NYC USA for a brief period, the twins eventually settled in London where they met guitarist, Swiss-American Eric Weber and reconnected with old friends Kane and Blake. Tempesst was born.
Having only released a few singles and EP’s in the mid to late 2010’s, their debut album 'Must Be a Dream' finally saw the light of day in 2020. It is a paradox of complexity and musical prowess shrouded beneath deceivingly simple pop melodies, producing a dense, sun-kissed record. It explores themes of longing, love and loss, substance abuse, the death of loved ones and remembering the beauty beneath it all. And though the album is the culmination of four years of work and decades of preparation, it’s only the first step in the evolution that is Tempesst.
They’ve recorded, mixed and mastered their second body of work, yet to be officially titled and announced over the coming months.
