MUSICAL BRAIN SCAN SERIES: DAN LYONS
Dear sixties souls, we're very thrilled to present you a new Musical Brain Scan! For this episode we would like to introduce Dan Lyons.
Dan is a musician and songwriter from the South East of England, best known as a founding member of the cult South London band Fat White Family. Over the years, he has collaborated and toured with artists such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre and La Femme, singing lead vocals on their album Rock Machine and performing at venues including London’s Roundhouse.
Alongside his band work, Lyons has developed a distinct solo voice. His debut album SubSuburbia (2020), produced by Chris Hayden (Florence + The Machine), was described by Clash Magazine as an intense lens on post-Brexit, pre-dystopian Britain blending semi-fictional storytelling with themes of small-town monotony, fractured relationships and modern alienation.
His second record, Shuttered Dreams, was recorded live in an old theatre during the COVID-19 pandemic using vintage equipment and minimal overdubs, giving the album a raw, timeless character.
Recently, Lyons has been touring with Insecure Men, joined Mozart' Estate: the pop band fronted by Lawrence from Felt, and is currently writing his third solo album while producing bands from his studio in Margate.
We've asked Dan for his musical brain scan, here it is:
