Good Morning Keith Edouard Bielle Interview Diary

Hi Edouard, could you tell us how you came to music?

I started playing music as a kid by learning classical piano and then guitar. As far as I can remember I’ve always dreamed of singing on a stage. But after graduating, I chose a safer path and worked in advertising as a copywriter for 5 years. It is only after those frustrating years that I remembered that I had a dream and decided to stop what I was doing for dedicating my time to music. Since then, I signed with a label and I released my first EP in 2023 and I’m much happier!

Could you give us your 5 most important records?

Even if I write in French and my music is mostly inspired by French artists like Polnareff, Christophe or Michel Berger, my most important records were probably written by American or English bands!

The Dark side of the Moon by Pink Floyd

Let it Be by The Beatles

Crime of the century by Supertramp

The Doors by The Doors

Is this it by The Strokes

And maybe 5 that recently caught your attention?

A much harder question!

Petite amie by Juliette Armanet

Do Hollywood by The Lemon Twigs

Virages by Pépite

Cristal Medium Blue by Lewis ofman

Theatrical state of mind by Papooz

What's your relation with clothes?

How I dress is very important in my everyday life and of course in my music. I need to feel comfortable and sexy to feel good!

I pay a close attention to the shape of my clothes, and I find a lot of nice pieces in vintage shops. I’ve spent a lot of time looking for cool things in vintage shops and now I think I’m quite good at it!

I think my style is permanently evolving but what I like at the time is having very fitted outfits inspired from the 70’s but with a sporty touch that makes the whole look more modern.

How do you approach styling for the stage?

Like I said earlier, my style is very important in my music and especially on stage. “To feel like a rockstar you have to dress like one”, I totally agree with this profound and subtle sentence I just invented! More seriously I think you have to wear what suits you because there is nothing more uncomfortable than feeling that you are wearing a disguise. The most important is not the outfit but how you wear it! But if you like to shine a little bit more on stage like I do, I think sometimes it is cool to have remarkable clothes that you would’nt wear on an everyday basis.

Do you have icons or references when it comes to getting dress?

Yes I love how people dressed in the the 70’s and 80’s, especially some singers like Mick Jagger, Michel Polnareff, Christophe, Gainsbourg etc… Recently I watched the documentary called “Get Back” about the recording session of the last Beatles album and I think that John Lennon and Ringo Starr were very inspiring in the way they dressed at the time. One funny thing is that those icons that had a very sharp sense of style when they were young totally seem to have totally lost it as they grew older, I hope it is not going to happen to me!

Is there a piece of clothing or accessory that you always wear on stage, like a kind of personal signature?

I have a red leather jacket that I wore for the first time last February for my concert at La Maroquinerie in Paris and since then I wore it a few times, but I also like changing my style sometimes. So for the moment I don’t really have a personal signature but I think It could be a good thing to have in the future.

Love seems to take a major part of your work, does Love has ever influenced your style?

Oh it is a good question, I have never really thought about it… Maybe when I was younger I changed a little bit the way I dressed to please some girls I dated but not anymore! But obviously if my girlfriend who has a really good sense of style has a very good idea, I would listen to her!

One time, for my concert in La Maroquinerie on the 14th of February, I dressed in a full red outfit to celebrate love so this time, yes, love influenced me!

If you had to imagine an outfit that perfectly represents your musical project, what would it look like?

As I said before I’m thinking of finding a personal signature on stage so I am not sure I would have an answer right now, but one thing is for sure, it would be flare jeans and a long-sleeved fitted T-shirt, maybe with a kitsch Logo on it!

What’s coming next for Edouard Bielle?

At the moment I am finishing my first album that I will release in about a year! Until then I will release some singles accompanied with video clips and I have also many concerts planned, so 2025 will be a very busy and interesting year for me.

As a parting question, what would you like listeners to take away from your work?

I think I would like people to feel the authenticity of my songs and of who I am on stage. In my songs I speak with an open heart and I want people to catch this emotion. And if they can also notice that I have a good voice, because I spend 200€ a month on singing lessons and I don’t want that to be in vain (haha)
